I had heard many times it was great, but I was still very suprised. Spirited Away is about a girl named Chihiro who accidentally wanders into a mysterious spirit world with her parents. After they’re turned into pigs, she has to work in a magical bathhouse run by a witch named Yubaba to survive and find a way to save them. Along the way, Chihiro meets strange spirits and creatures, learns to be brave, and figures out who she is, before finally escaping back to the human world with her parents. I thought this movie was fantastic. It was incredible how Miyazaki made a movie for children but still managed to make the movie about adult themes. I chose to study Japanese because of my heritage. My mother is Japanese, however, I never learned how to speak Japanese. I have been to Japan many times and I feel as if I cannot truly experience it the same without my mother translating everything for me. This led me to the decision of taking Japanese.
